Tendon and ligament damage most often occurs among people whose occupations or sporting activities generate repetitive stress to joints.

Conditions caused by tendon or ligament damage include: sprained ankles, hammer, mallet and claw toes, bunions, and achilles tendon injuries.

Many patients respond to non-surgical treatments for tendon and ligament damage. There are those instances, however, where surgical intervention is required.

Surgery of this nature usually involves the reconnecting of torn or damaged tendon or ligament reconstruction under local anaesthetic and occasionally under regional or general anaesthetic.

With an early diagnosis and treatment, adequate rest and a rehabilitative programme the likelihood of a full recovery is high.
